Applying for a Year 7 Place 2026/27

If your child is due to transfer to secondary school in September 2026 you need to apply for a school place by the closing date of 31 October 2025.

Please read the booklet 'Applying for a Year 7 place 2026/27' very carefully because it will:

  • Explain how Wigan Council decide which school to offer your child.
  • Gives information to help you decide if you are likely to get a place at a particular school.

Appeals

The Local Authority also manages admissions appeals on behalf of the school. You can access their guidance and appeal information via this link: School admissions appeals

Late Applications

The closing date for applications was 31 October 2025 and the online application service is now closed.

If you have not yet applied for a secondary school place, or you wish to change your mind about the preferences or the order of preferences, you must complete a late application form.

Applying for a Year 7 Place 2027/28

Applications have not yet opened for the 2027/28 academic year.  The application process will be as above, however the key dates will be:

30/09/26 Opening date to apply
31/10/26 Closing date for applications
01/03/27 National allocation day
30/03/27 Date for appeals to be lodged by
01/09/27 Admission to school
31/12/27 Waiting list closing date

In-Year Transfers

If you wish to apply for your child to move schools please click here to visit the Wigan Council website for further information.

Before applying using the online link, please ask your child's current school to complete Part 1 of the Secondary School In-Year Application.  Once completed, you must scan or take a photo of the completed Part 1 and upload it to the relevant section of the online applications. This step must be completed before moving onto Part 2 of the form.
