Students receive Resuscitation Training using equipment donated by The British Heart Foundation
The school was recently fortunate to receive a free Call Push Rescue kit from The British Heart Foundation. This will allow us to train our students on how and when to perform CPR on an adult or child; how to put someone in the recovery position and how to use a defibrillator.
One of our Teaching Assistants Mrs Pritchard, who is a trained first-aider, received specialist cardiac training from The British Heart Foundation and as a result is now able to train our students with these life-saving skills. The training has begun with Y11 Student Leaders, who have been trained to give heart massage and resuscitation using the inflatable manikins provided. We are also very fortunate to have a defibrillator in school which students have also received training on.
The students have all enjoyed the training sessions and benefitted from the knowledge they have gained. One of our Student Leaders, Dean Carney (11 GTS) sums up the purpose of the sessions really well:-
Recently I attended a resuscitation training course in school which I really enjoyed. I hope that I never have to use the knowledge, but if I do, I know that my experience could help in an emergency. In my opinion all students and staff should be given this training as it only takes two hours of your time and it could save someone’s life.
